Photo Requirements

Technical Requirements

Every photo you upload must meet these minimum requirements:

  • File format: JPEG, PNG, or HEIC/HEIF. Photos taken on an iPhone work without any conversion.
  • Maximum file size: 20 MB per photo.
  • Minimum resolution: 100 x 100 pixels.
  • Face visibility: Each photo must contain a clearly visible face that SchoolMorph's face detection can identify.

Tips for the Best Morph Results

The quality of your morph video depends heavily on the quality of the photos. Follow these guidelines for the smoothest, most impressive results:

  1. Front-facing photos work best. The student should be looking directly at the camera, not turned to the side.
  2. Good lighting matters. Evenly lit photos without harsh shadows produce cleaner morphs.
  3. One face per photo. If a baby photo includes a parent holding the child, crop it so only the child's face is visible.
  4. Avoid sunglasses and hats. Accessories that cover the face or forehead can interfere with face detection and landmark alignment.
  5. Similar framing helps. Try to use baby and current photos with similar framing (head and shoulders, centred). This creates a more natural-looking transition.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • "Face not detected" — The photo may be too dark, blurry, or taken at an extreme angle. Try a clearer, front-facing photo instead.
  • Unusual aspect ratio — Very wide or very tall photos may not morph as well. Crop to a standard portrait orientation before uploading.
  • Corrupted file — If a photo will not upload or causes an error, try re-saving it from your photo app or re-exporting it as a JPEG.
  • HEIC not working — Ensure your file has the .heic or .heif extension. If problems persist, convert to JPEG before uploading.
